Monopoly money - Remarque numismatique

Americans often refer to canadian money as monopoly money because: 1) the bills are colorful (colourful for the Canucks and the Poms) 2) the loonie used to be not worth much compared to the US dollar a few years ago. Now, I just got my hands on some (I might cite Sally in It's Christmas Charlie Brown) US currency (as I will be visiting an undisclosed location south of the border for the first time ever), and I have to say that the Yanks' paper currency is the one that looks like it's been printed by Parker Brothers. The design, paper and style are so ancient and cheap looking that one could mistake it for what you need to buy Baltic Avenue. And, as the current financial crisis goes on, who knows, maybe in the near future it will be worth just as much as board game money (I'm not saying Monopoly necessarily, perhaps, Stock Ticker or Fric)...

*******

  • We could take it the next step and make it indestructible like Australian money. Then it would *really* make American money look like crap. ;)

  • I don't think any foreign currency ever feels like 'real' money... so you can spend without feeling too guilty!

I find it interesting that you refer to British people as 'Poms' as I thought this was just an Austrailian term for Brits.

  • Australia, New-Zealand and South Africa it seems, according to Wikipedia. But I thought it was appropriate. I do believe I have a reader or two living in Australia.

  • Ah Stock Ticker!
